Thank you for this post, Jen. I think you are right on the money in saying that women need to learn financial smarts — it is not to say women need to become “career women”, but they should feel capable of handling money as it can have a huge effect on their lives, either to their detriment or to their favor. I agree that an ideal set up is to have both parents work part time and coordinate their schedules to care for their kids. Kids really benefit from being raised by their own parents.
I wanted to mention – though you may already have heard of it (I am commenting very late) – that a great alternative to Microsoft Money is Personal Capital. I first heard about it from Sam on Financial Samurai (who also happened to comment on this post!).
